The story behind the world's most infamous haunted house tale: the Amityville murders. This is the first elevated look at every aspect of this wildly layered story about the heinous murder of a family of six that became eclipsed by paranormal controversy.
When George and Kathy Lutz move into a suburban dream home in 1975, a cascade of terrifying, unexplainable events drive them out in just 28 days; those closest to the terror share their truths about the story.
A year before the Lutzes move into 112 Ocean Ave, the DeFeo family is found shot to death under strange circumstances in the same house; lone survivor Ronnie DeFeo Jr. is accused of murder, but mob ties and paranormal theories cloud the case.
After paranormal trailblazers Ed and Lorraine Warren confirm a demonic presence at 112 Ocean Ave., the Lutz family turns their "true story" into a hit book and movie; fame comes at a heavy cost when they are accused of perpetrating a massive hoax.
The success of The Amityville Horror reinvents the haunted house for a new generation, spawning sequels, conspiracy theories, and rabid fandom; George Lutz's secret past is revealed as the human toll and absurd legacy of Amityville comes into focus.
