Companion programme to Gregory Porter's Popular Voices (2017) in which Gregory Porter introduces a selection of live performances culled from the BBC archives.
A celebration of bravura singers who bring the house down with their vocal delivery and performance. From the gospel delivery of Mahalia Jackson, big ballads of Tom Jones and vocal range of Jeff Buckley.
The BBC raids it's rather depleted archive and presents surviving clips of some of the cream of 20st century performers, way back when they appeared on a BBC Show.
Featuring outspoken, thought-provoking and lyrically gifted songsters including Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Patti Smith, Gil Scott-Heron, KRS-One, Jarvis Cocker, Nick Cave and more.
