Darkness is moving in, and young exorcist Allen Walker is humanity's greatest hope against the wicked forces conspiring to bring civilization to its knees. After the preparations are completed, the ship begins to set sail. In the distant horizon, Allen's left eye picks up legions of Akuma, both level 1 and 2, approaching the ship from the horizon. Realizing a massive attack, the exorcists prepare for battle. However, they soon discover that they are not the intended target...
When Allen and Lenalee realize what became of Suman Dark, an Exorcist who went missing after his unit was attacked, they decide to rescue him.
Recognizing the enormous and uncontrollable white object as fellow exorcist and good friend, Suman Dark, a horrified Lenalee wonders how he became a Togaochi (Fallen). The legions of akuma continue to assault the huge Suman, but fail. Allen and Lenalee desperately try to discover how to stop Suman's Innocence from insanity.
Allen attempts to stop Suman from destroying a nearby village by increasing his Innocence's synchro rate to its maximum power. While struggling to stop the Togaochi, Allen's Innocence returns to normal and is severely damaged, causing him intense pain. Meanwhile, Lenalee learns the truth of a Togaochi and Suman's fate from Komui.
The huge body of Suman begins to deteriorate and Allen wastes no time activating his Innocence, but unfortunately, his arm begins to grow in intense pain as he tries to remove Suman's Innocence. Miraculously, Allen manages to get Suman and his Innocence out of the body. Unfortunately, Suman is still alive but his mind has gone dead. Then......!
Samo Han Wong from the Black Order's Asian Branch brings word that Allen has been found and Lenalee and the others need to leave for Japan without him.
Allen regains consciousness, surprised to find himself still alive. Bak Chang, the Chief of the Black Order's Asian Branch, explains how he survived.
When Allen remains unable to activate his Innocence, Bak comes up with a strategy to arouse his Innocence by creating a sense of crisis.
Determined to do anything it takes to restore his Innocence, Allen begins his training with Fou, doing battle with her while constantly trying to activate his Innocence to fight. Meanwhile, General Klaud Nine and General Winters Sokaro return to the Black Order upon news of the deaths of their exorcist units.
Lenalee continues her one-on-one fight against Eshi, a Level 3 Akuma, while other Akuma attack the ship from the sky.
Remembering that Allen released his Innocence forcibly to save Suman, Lenalee decides to do the same to save her "world."
Lenalee, floating in darkness, remembers Allen and what she said to him concerning her view of the world. Afterwards she pushes herself and her innocence to the limits and even exceeds them, defeating Eshii in the process and disappering once again.
While Lenalee is fighting the level 3 akuma, the sailors and exorcists on board the ship are trying to protect it from other akuma. After finally defeating them, they now wait Lenalee's return anxiously.
Lenalee, Lavi, and the others have finally arrived in Japan. However, when three Level 3 Akuma appear, the group decides to hide rather than risk fighting them.
Allen continues to train with Fo in order to revive his Innocence, without much improvement. Some members of the Asian Branch start questioning the necessity of keeping Allen within their base.
Despite their best efforts, Lenalee and the others are unable to avoid the three Level 3 Akuma pursuing them. Just when they think they have no choice but to fight, an unexpected development occurs.
Allen's innocence still hasn't resumed a physical form despite his continued training with Fo. However, some changes are observed. Could they be a clue to the revival of Allen's innocence?
A Level 3 Akuma whose dark matter holds the power of decomposition has invaded the Asian Branch base. As Allen still cannot activate his Innocence, Bak and the others try to protect him.
Even though Allen's body is half decomposed and he still hasn't been able to revive his Innocence, he returns to the Level 3's location in order to save Fo.
Now that Allen's Innocence has been revived, he wants to rejoin his comrades as soon as possible and tells Bak that he'll take the teleporting device the Level 3 took to the Asian Branch.
