I was in winter, when I met the spring-like you.
Drained from her life in the city, a young cellist moves to a quiet small town, where she encounters an old friend who helps her heal and remake herself.
Hae Won is sick and tired of living in this cold world. She comes home to Bukhyeon-ri, the rural village where she grew up, to heal her soul. Eun Seop sees that Hae Won, a classmate from high school, has returned and feels an odd surge of emotions. They meet again in the same place where they share memories from ten years ago.
Hae Won runs into Jang Woo, another classmate from high school while in town. He invites her to the small book club that meets in Eun Seop’s bookstore. It’s a small gathering of the townspeople that makes Hae Won feel warm inside. Meanwhile, Hae Won learns that Jang Woo gave her phone number to someone she really did not want to remember.
When Hae Won sees Bo Yeong, she is reminded of the pain she endured in high school. Meanwhile, a cold snap engulfs Bukhyeon-ri and the water pipes in Hodu House begin to burst one by one. Hae Won has no other choice but to stay with Eun Seop for the time being. When Eun Seop goes up to the mountains at night, Hae Won tries to find him.
Eun Seop says that he knows the mountains like the back of his hand and Hae Won begins to wonder about him. Meanwhile, Jang Woo’s colleague goes missing in the mountains. Everyone in the village asks for Eun Seop’s help. Seeing Eun Seop with his family after he descends the mountain a hero, Hae Won realizes how different he is from her.
Hae Won’s Mom, Myeong Ju, shows up in Bukhyeon-ri out of the blue. Hae Won feels uncomfortable and awkward around her mom and they end up saying some hurtful words to each other. Meanwhile, Eun Seop goes to see Bo Yeong after getting a call from her. Hae Won sees them together and gets the wrong idea.
Yeong Woo, the boy who had a crush on Hae Won in high school, shows up in town. Eun Seop is bothered by Yeong Woo’s presence since he is obviously here to see Hae Won. Meanwhile, Hae Won moves back to Hodu House and the three of them meet again at the Joint Reunion. What kind of feelings are they each hiding?
Hae Won tells Eun Seop that she likes him, but his reaction is not what she expected. After her very direct confession, Hae Won goes to ask Eun Seop about something at the bookstore. When she gets there, she meets Bo Yeong and becomes upset. Meanwhile, Eun Seop is sick but then disappears into the mountains in a trance-like state.
When Eun Seop disappears into the mountains again, Hae Won gets worried and sets out to find him. She finds him at the cottage he always goes to, but his attitude towards her is very blunt and icy. Hae Won thinks that is Eun Seop’s way of rejecting her feelings for him and things become awkward between them. Later on, they end up going on another hike.
Hae Won and Eun Seop share their first kiss on the top of the mountain. Although Hae Won now knows that Eun Seop likes her back, she is anxious that he might disappear. Meanwhile, after having dinner with Jang Woo and Mr. Park, they rush over to break up a fight in the marketplace. There, Hae Won hears a secret about Eun Seop she never knew before.
A stranger shows up in town and disrupts Hae Won and Eun Seop’s happiness. He seems to be the same man from the picture Eun Seop carries in his wallet. The man asks Eun Seop to come with him, bringing up the fact that they are blood relations. Even with the bookstore’s flea market event happening soon, Eun Seop feels the need to follow the man.
Eun Seop receives a phone call at the bookstore that leads to an impromptu trip to see the landlord with Hae Won. It becomes a chance for the two to fall deeper in love. Meanwhile, Yun Taek asks Myeong Yeo to send him the first line of her new novel. Myeong Yeo sends over a single line via fax that contains a shocking secret from the past.
Myeong Yeo fax puts Yun Taek in a frenzy and he calls Myeong Yeo all day long, even though she won’t pick up. Meanwhile, Hae Won remains oblivious of the truth from the past that is replaying in Myeong Yeo’s mind and continues to spend sweet moments with Eun Seop. However, Bo Yeong shows up at the bookstore unannounced one night.
Bo Yeong calls Eun Seop to come and save her in the mountains. Hae Won goes to get her instead and the two finally get to talk honestly. Meanwhile, Yun Taek runs to Myeong Yeo’s side after receiving a text message. He sees what Myeong Yeo has been hiding behind her sunglasses. Finally, Hae Won discovers Eun Seop’s secret diary.
Myeong Yeo is admitted to the hospital but refuses to get treatment. In an attempt to convince Myeong Yeo, Hae Won calls her mom. Meanwhile, Myeong Yeo sends the manuscript for her new book to Eun Seop and Yun Taek. Although it is supposed to be a mixture of fiction and non-fiction, the story seems a bit too truthful and personal.
Myeong Yeo declares that she wants to turn herself in to the police and that she has been suffering from guilt all this time. Hae Won is hurt and confused that she didn’t know about any of what happened. With winter passing by and spring just around the corner, Eun Seop must prepare to let Hae Won go.
Hae Won and Eun Seop go on with their own lives as if they have forgotten about the other. Meanwhile, Myeong Ju writes a letter to Hae Won, saying all the things she wasn’t able to say before. She also lets Hae Won know that Myeong Yeo will be leaving soon. Hae Won contemplates whether or not to go back to Bukhyeon-ri.
