Chronically underemployed couple Jann and Cricket Melfi are self-proclaimed home renovation “experts” who are more than confident they are television’s next great home design celebrity duo. The clueless pair's dreams of basic cable fame and glory are derailed when they get themselves kidnapped by members of a drug cartel and are forced to renovate their sprawling homes.
Cricket is fired from a home improvement store. Jann gets the boot from directing a high school play. If ever there was a time to launch their careers as home renovation TV stars, this is it.
The Melfis tackle their first home renovation project: a shabby shack in the desert. But there’s something in the walls of this fixer-upper. And it’s big.
When Cricket and Jann blow through the pile of found money to renovate their desert dwelling, an unexpected visitor comes through their shiny new door.
When cartel member Diego shows up looking for his missing money, the Melfis hope a red-hot sizzle reel will come to their rescue.
Diego makes the Melfis dig their own graves. But will an eleventh-hour moment of renovation inspiration change his mind?
Diego is thrilled with Jann and Cricket’s remodeling work. So thrilled, in fact, he decides to pawn them off to his boss, Rumualdo.
While Jann and Rumualdo bond over music, Fidelia isn’t impressed with Cricket’s plans for the remodel.
The Melfis hope their remodel of Rumualdo’s beach estate will finally set them free. But Diego has a new deal in store for them.
When they see auditions are open for a new home renovation TV show, Jann and Cricket plan to create a new sizzle reel right under the cartel’s noses.
When their audition tape snags them an invite to Los Angeles, Jann and Cricket try to slip away from the cartel unnoticed.
The Melfis make a mad dash across the border to freedom. Fame. Fortune. But the HRTV deal comes with a surprise.
